Caroline Monahan has been an offensive threat starting with her first game in a Lauralton Hall uniform. In that 2014 season opener, she had the game’s only goal, beating reigning Class L state champion Guilford.
Scoring four gals in a game is not uncommon for Monahan, now a senior. But to have two in a three-game span is that much more impressive. On consecutive Fridays at home, Monahan scored four against Guilford and Cheshire, respectively.
She is just dynamic, athletic and technically a very gifted player. I’m glads to get her for one year,” Lauralton Hall coach Steven Waizenegger said.
Waizenegger had completed a decade-long run as the head boys coach at St. Joseph and left the program on good terms, but for personal reasons. Also a coach at the ODP level, Waizenegger wasn’t looking for a varsity high school job when Lauralton Hall opened up and in March and he applied for the position.
Since a 2-2-1 start, the Crusaders have won four straight games and is in the thick of the SCC Oronoque Division race, trailing Hand. Monahan has help with Molly Rotondo, who had one goal and three assists against Mercy last Monday, and Sara Bartoli to take away some of the double- and triple-teams.
“It’s not just give it to Caroline,. She can’t do it by herself,” Waizenegger said. “We are starting to click now. We try to play a disciplined team game and we try to attack. When she (Monahan) has space, she’s fun to watch.”
Monahan has committed to play at Division I William & Mary next fall.
